Bereavement is a journey for all caregivers, family, and friends and there is no right or wrong way to act during this time. Pike County Hospice is here for you from the time you or your loved one begins hospice care. We are by your side for all stages of the process by offering many bereavement services to you and your family. We also send out complimentary newsletters titled “Journey’s” that help understand the grieving and bereavement process.
We also offer online bereavement support to the public both online and in-person. Learn more about these services and get more resources by clicking here >>>
To help show our sympathy when a patient passes, we deliver care packages to the family. It offers bereavement information, records of gratitude, complimentary thank you cards, postage, and more items tailored to each specific family’s needs. We also do our best to deliver a basket of goods to patient’s visitation for the family that is stocked with water, crackers, mints, kleenex, and hand sanitizer. Our hope is that these small gifts will help make the grieving process easier, by removing some of the stressors that can associated with losing a loved one.
*Due to COVID-19 concerns, this and all other public events have been cancelled until further notice.*
This complimentary service is held each year; it is free and open to the public. Appetizers, desserts and beverages are served to those who attend. Pike County Hospice staff and volunteers help with encouraging words, memorial messages, songs, gifts and more. The program is completed with a final memorial video and a closing prayer by Hospice Chaplain.

The Home Care & Hospice Foundation of Pike County helped develop a “Memorial Border” of specific beautiful trees surrounding the PCHD building. Families who have had a loved one under our hospice care were given the opportunity to purchase one of these trees and dedicate it to the memory of their lost loved one by inscribing their name in a beautiful granite stone that lay beneath. In addition to the memorial tree’s there are future plans for an expansion to the border so that families are still able to dedicate in memory of their loved ones.
The Home Care & Hospice Foundation of Pike County’s Nursing Scholarship Application is available every January, and will award one $2,000 nursing scholarship this year to a student or adult pursuing a nursing career. The Home Care & Hospice Foundation knows that our amazing nurses are the backbone of Pike County Hospice, and they want to entice more compassionate individuals to pursue nursing and help change the lives of our community members. It’s a very rewarding career, both monetarily and emotionally. Making a difference in people’s lives and making them smile is not something that you can achieve in any career. As a nurse, you’ll make a huge difference in people’s lives. A caring and compassionate nurse is considered as a guardian angel by patients. This can be a very satisfying and gratifying career for the compassionate.
The deadline for applications is April 15th, 2023

Pies for patients is a program that was established to “treat” our patients and caregivers to a weekly dessert prepared wholeheartedly by our hospice volunteers and foundation board members.
Our patients are offered a “home cooked” thanksgiving meal each November. The meal is prepared and delivered by our Hospice staff and volunteers who work tirelessly in our kitchen to make numerous Thanksgiving meals each November. All the trimmings are served; turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, green beans, rolls, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, and pies. These meals are delivered hot and fresh to patients and their families who were home bound during the Thanksgiving holiday.

We are proud to have a Hospice-Veteran Partnership with the We Honor Veterans Program. Our involvement with this organization helps us to ensure that excellent care at the end of life is available for our nation’s Veterans and their families. This program is focused on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment. By recognizing the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families, community providers, in partnership with VA staff, we learn how to accompany and guide them through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending.
The veterans who serve our nation are deeply deserving of honor and respect. Whether in times of war or peace, veterans and their families devote their lives to the service of our country and the ideals we hold dear. The sacrifices they make are without parallel: this is why we go above and beyond to ensure our veteran patients get the extra attention they deserve. If you or someone you know is a local Veteran, and are interested in learning more about how to get involved with this program, call us today!
