Volunteers are required to be 16 or older. There is no requirement as to how much or how little you volunteer. It is not uncommon for people whose loved one died while in hospice care to want to volunteer for the hospice provider soon after the death. We do recommend waiting at least a year after your loved one’s death before volunteering to ensure you have given yourself proper time to grieve.
To ensure that prospective volunteers are equipped for the challenge of working with people nearing the end of their lives, they are required to complete a background check, an orientation and training sessions. They must also posses valid driver’s license if applicable.
