Hospice volunteers bring comfort, companionship, and support to patients and families, offering a listening ear and a caring presence during life’s most meaningful moments and are a vital part of our program as a whole.
Some interact directly with patients and families while others prefer more clerical volunteering in the office. As a volunteer, you choose your level of engagement and no requirements on how often you decide to offer your support.
People often imagine themselves becoming a hospice volunteer and being able to make a difference helping those nearing the end of their life journey, yet many are nervous of what may be expected, and unsure of what it entails. What do Hospice Volunteers do?
Volunteers each have their own special interests, personalities and talents that can be used in many different and creative ways. Here are just some examples of compassionate duties that our volunteers have provided to patients, their families and our program:
- Companionship and emotional support
- Running errands for patients and families
- Reading, singing or playing a musical instrument
- Pet Therapy
- Assisting staff with events at local nursing facilities
- Baking for patients or bringing special treats
- Helping with administrative tasks in the office
- Veteran to Veteran support
- Providing special “Veteran to Veteran” support to patients who have served

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age with valid ID, are required to fill out an application, pass a background check and complete an educational video course. Reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator if you have any questions or would like to plan a visit. Once your information is verified and your courses are complete, you may then:
- Decide your level of involvement
- Join us for monthly meetings
